Modelling effects and amps simulate the tonal characteristics that various amps and hardware impart to a guitar signal. Some will accurately reproduce vintage, out-of-production or temperamental effects without the massive expense of sourcing the originals; other modellers will tone-shape a signal to sound like it’s going through a particular type of amplifier, speaker cabinet and microphone without the hassle or cost of the equipment it is emulating.
