Does your studio look like it has just been raided by a horde of over-caffeinated detectives looking for evidence for their latest enquiry? If so, perhaps a studio spring clean could be in order.
Not only can messy studios be bad for your gear (dust bunnies as big as your head developing in bits of kit, tangles of cables being used as nests by breeding mice), but it can hamper your productivity and, when inspiration does strike, do you really want to spend 10 minutes looking for your microphone and the correct cable to get something recorded?
While we hate to do their advertising for them, the fact is IKEA make some good videos, such as this one, which shows how much difference a bit of organisation can make in the music room:
Obviously, this studio makeover is not the cheapest of projects, but you might be surprised with what bits of charity shop furniture you might be able to find and repurpose with a bit of imagination. Of course, some of us can only be creative when inspired by the entropic maelstrom of studio chaos…
