New Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol X1!

The first Traktor Kontrol X1 was a very handy thing for the digital dj to have in their setup, particularly if you were using an external hardware mixer. With all the controls (kontrols?) you needed to browse, load, sync and play tracks, control the Traktor effects and loop functions, and really get you away from having to touch your computer at all.

And, as we all know, if you have to touch your computer, people -from Edinburgh to London to Belfast to Cardiff and all places within and outwith- think you’re just checking your email.

Traktor Kontrol X1 rebooted

While the Kontrol X1 has been a staple of my own dj setup for a good few years now, it wasn’t perfect. The controls for the effects were labelled for the delay, reverb and filter, which was fine if that’s how you mapped things, but confusing if you didn’t use things that way. Also, the use of black text on a grey background for the labelling of the shift functions on the lower half of the Kontrol X1 made it quite difficult to read in low light conditions. Such as, unfortunately, dj booths.

With this new edition of the X1, things seem to have changed a little, but for the better… The FX control section is now left unlabelled other than FX1, 2 and 3. The labelling appears improved and we now have the addition of a ribbon-like touch-strip for control of pitchbend, track position and effects parameters, as well as RGB cue-point trigger buttons.

Traktor Kontrol X1, F1 & Z1: 3 is the magic number

Following the recent launch of the Traktor Kontrol Z1 -which included an onboard soundcard- and along with the remix deck-focused Kontrol F1, the new Kontrol X1 fits in nicely and complements the other Traktor Kontrol units perfectly. With the three of these along with Traktor Pro in your rig, you’ll have the ability to pretty much do anything in your dj sets, and in possibly any way you might choose.

Additionally, given the convenient form factor of these controllers, you may well be able to fit your entire dj rig into that bag or box you used to carry records in!

With our recent makeover of the hi-tech area in the shop, we’ve got a nice, little Traktor rig set up for you, conveniently in the centre of Edinburgh! Currently sporting the Traktor Kontrol Z1, Kontrol F1 and the Kontrol S4, we’ll get the new Kontrol X1 installed alongside as soon as we can. With a scheduled release of the 1st August, as soon as we have them available, we’ll let you know!
