Roland TR-8, TB-3 and VT-3 here tomorrow!

We’ve all been waiting for what seems like an eternity, but the wait is very nearly almost finally over: our first Roland Aira units arrive tomorrow! Depending on when our couriers drop off their precious cargo, we should have the Roland TR-8, TB-3 and VT-3 units set up and ready for hands-on music making in our Edinburgh Roland Planet by the end of the day, primed for a classic retro-groovebox-inspired weekend of music making!

After that, it’s just one more week until our first batch of retail units arrive on the 21st March, so if you want your Aira from the first batch, it’s time to get your preorders in! Then it’s time to look forward to the Roland System 1

The Roland VT-3 Voice Transformer looks like a fantastic live tool, but let’s just remind ourselves of the big two – the TR-8 and the TB-3 – that are the products that people have wanted Roland to make for years:

Roland TR-8 Rhythm Performer

Roland TR-8 at Red Dog Music

This is what we’ve all been waiting for, the classic sounds of the Roland 808 and 909 drum machines. Brought together in one unit that features hands-on, intuitive sound tweaking and step-sequencing goodness, perfect for the stage or the studio.

Just like the original:

  • Full reproduction of the original TR-808 and TR-909 rhythm machines based on original design spec sheets and detailed analogue circuit analysis of various specimens including Roland’s own pristine units
  • Newly developed Analogue Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology allows part-by-part analyses and faithful recreation of tonality and behaviour including the smooth variations of tone that occur when you work the controls of each instrument
  • Obsessive attention to detail – like reproducing the original TR’s unique variations in tone that occur when multiple instruments are entered in accented steps

TR Evolved:

  • 16 stunning kits made up of 11 instrument types

Roland TB-3 Touch Bassline

Roland TB-3 Touch Bassline at Red Dog Music

There aren’t many sounds that are more distinctive than the Roland 303. Let’s be honest, the 303 practically invented a whole new genre. Or three. perhaps it wasn’t that great to program, but that’s not a problem anymore with the pressure-sensitive touch-screen interface of the Roland TB-3 Touch Bassline.

  • ACB technology models each component and every aspect of the original TB-303 sound
