1. Hello! Who are you, where are you from and all that good stuff.
Hello! We are Our Smallest Adventures from Fife in Scotland.
2. Tell us a bit about the music you make.
We are a 5 piece post rock/instrumental band, incorporating cello, soaring guitars and driving rhythms.
Doug Wilkins – guitar
Martyn Rollo – guitar/keys
Mathew Webster – bass
Sandy Power – cello
Stephen McKie – drums
3. When did you start and what made you want to start making music?
The band has existed as an entity since 2008, the core of this lineup having been together since 2011. There have been some lineup changes along the way but there has been a consistent core. The band begun to try and make music which was different to what was going on in the local area at the time.
4. Stage or studio?
Stage – there’s nothing quite like the feeling of playing music live. On stage it’s very much about capturing a moment in time and making the most of it. Studio for us can be a fairly stressful experience as we’re often on a tight schedule which doesn’t mix terribly well with our want for things to be perfect…
5. What gear do you use to make your tunes?
As you might expect from post rock, we all use a considerable amount of pedals, specifically delays and reverbs. Even the electric cello runs through a phaser, flanger and pitch shifter, which allows for some more unconventional sounds. And of course, we love our noisy pedals too!
6. And what is your choice bit of gear and why?
From a personal point of view, I (Martyn) recently picked up a Squier Telecaster Custom with Seymour Duncan p90’s, which has become my new #1 guitar. Our newest member, Doug, has some very nice gear from the likes of Strymon, which again, is probably no real surprise.
7. Where can we check out your tunes?
https://oursmallestadventures.bandcamp.com/ has our two releases.
