1. Hello! Who are you, where are you from and all that good stuff.
HI – We are Loux, an electro pop trio from Leeds. We formed in 2017, but Jordan and Chris, the singer and guitarist have been playing together for a few years now.
2. Tell us a bit about the music you make.
We’re an electronic pop band, but we take influences from a massive range of music, from math rock to 90’s girl bands. Most of our songs are pretty dark sounding, and they get a bit heavier at times, but there are groovier bits and proper choruses too.
3. When did you start and what made you want to start making music?
We all did a degree in Music, and met at University. Chris and Jordan started playing together in their first year, and then Ali joined just after graduation. It’s difficult to say why we started making music together, I think myself and Chris just found that we enjoyed really similar music and wanted to make some for ourselves. We’d had a couple of different bands before Loux, but when we found Ali we loved playing with him so we decided to start over.
4. Stage or studio?
Really difficult to say. I think the answer is different for each of us. Chris is a studio guy so he’d probably say that, but we do love playing shows too. We spend a lot of time writing in a studio set up though, so stage is perhaps a bit more exciting at the moment just because we’ve done it a lot less.
5. What gear do you use to make your tunes?
For recording Chris is the one, he has so much cool gear which is amazing to have at our fingertips, he is our band daddy. He recently picked up a Blue Kiwi, and a Focusrite ISA two mic pre, which have made a massive difference to our recordings, especially the vocals. Chris and Ali are absolute gear heads though they have absolutely everything between them. Ali plays a Sakae drum kit with a Roland SPD – SX, and we use Ableton when we’re playing live, which runs our light show too. When we’re composing Chris has Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol with Komplete 10 Ultimate, and that’s amazing for coming up with ideas.
6. And what is your choice bit of gear and why?
I love my Korg Minilogue because there is so much possibility for different sounds, its portable and gives me flexibility to personalise sounds to make them original. It’s also really good looking too. For Chris it’d probably be his pedals, the Strymon Big Sky and the Electro Harmonix POG 2. They’re used in almost all of our songs for various creative purposes. Chris records and mixes our stuff with a Universal Audio Apollo Quad too – which makes a big difference to things. The UAD plugins are worlds above what we used before. Ali just has too much gear to choose one bit of it, but one of our favourites is is Behringer X Air, which is amazing for full band practices – as you can just load your settings every time, and you’re ready to go in seconds.
7. Where can we check out your tunes?
Our first single, Meet Me Half Way, is out on Spotify, Apple Music etc, and it’s also on our Soundcloud.
We’ve also got a couple of live sessions on YouTube, which we filmed in the stunning Victoria Baths in Manchester. It’s a huge empty swimming pool, so there’s a ton of reverb on everything, and they were really fun to record. They can be found here:
We are also on Facebook, Twitter and instagram, as /Louxband
