What's the difference between a "solid top" and a "laminate top" acoustic guitar? – Question of the Day

In general, solid top guitars sound better than laminate top guitars because the top (the bit that faces out towards the audience and projects the sound) is made of a solid piece of wood, whereas in a laminate top guitar, the top is made of plywood which is stiffer and does not vibrate so freely, meaning the projected sound is less rich and detailed.
