Handle With Care: originals vs covers
The thing with The Traveling Wilburys is that the name just doesn’t really sound like the name of a supergroup. Bad Company, Cream, The Firm: those are good supergroup names. If you look at the band members though, The Traveling Wilburys are perhaps the most super of all the supergroups. You’ve got George Harrison in there, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne. Not a bad line up, you’ll admit.
Jenny Lewis, on the other hand, is not Roy Orbison. Making her acting debut in a jelly advert, she had roles in several US TV programmes and a few teen films, but it was with the country/indie stylings of Rilo Kiley that perhaps she found her true home. On her ‘solo’ album Rabbit Fur Coat, which featured the Watson Twins, she covered the Wilburys’ song Handle With Care, but how successfully? Your thoughts?
