Learn music production – for free!
Want to learn music production? Of course you do or, even if you are Quincy Jones, it’s still fun to learn, so read on…
If memory serves, we mentioned Coursera once before, I think it was a Facebook post, but we’re mentioning it again, as their course Introduction to Music Production, run by the Berklee College of Music has just started, and you can join up for free!
If you’ve just picked up your first audio interface, made the jump from your old tape-portastudio to a new DAW, are thinking about it, or want to get up to speed with some of the lingo, this is a great way to spend a few hours each week!
The course kicked off on the 27th of January, so there is still plenty of time to get enrolled and catch up. The first series of lectures covered the basics of sound, types of connections, gain staging, microphones, guitar pickups and so forth.
The next five lessons will cover subjects such as the digital audio workstation, the mixer, effects and synthesis. If the first week is anything to go by, this course should provide a great way for people who have eagerly unwrapped their Christmas audio recording gear to get the most from it.
This course does seem to look like it has a lot to offer. There may be a few things I take issue with when it comes to some of the questions, but that’s just me being a pedant…
Regardless of whether you want to learn music production, grab some technical tips or fill in some background knowledge, the Introduction to Music Production course looks like it’s worth the entrance fee…
