The 808 and 909 are back: all hail the Roland TR8 Aira
Modern dance music – from hip-hop to house to techno – wouldn’t be what it is without the thump of the Roland TR909 or the boom of the TR808. Artists from Afrika Bambaataa and the Beastie Boys through to Daft Punk and Richie Hawtin have used these little guys to craft their beats. There’s something solid about the sounds they make that just hasn’t been matched in the 30 years since they were first released.
Until now, that is…
Roland have officially announced the launch of the Aira series of modules, one of which is the TR8, a meticulously modelled clone of both the 808 and 909 but with a load of added features to make it not only match but surpass the sound quality and creative potential of its predecessors.

The Roland TR8 will be available at the end of March with a street price at time of writing of £399. Bargain!
