Trust Rod: Pickup pole spacing

Trust Rod: Pickup pole spacing

In guitar terms, it used to be you stuck with what you had. These days things are much more open – tinkering & modifying has become a musical playground for different pickups and accessories.

If your pole spacing is wrong, the magnets won’t align with the strings properly and your output will be low & uneven

Because of their modular construction, Fender guitars lend themselves particularly well to the pursuit of sonic & ergonomic nirvana, having access to replacement strachplates with varying pickup configurations, standardised fittings and a wealth of suggested modifications on fan forums.

A couple of things to remember: When fitting humbuckers (originally designed for Gibson guitars) make sure you stipulate F-space” for the pole pieces when you order – failure to do so will result in E pole pieces which falls inside the path of their intended strings with a resultant lack of signal.
