Get Started with the Novation Circuit

Okay, let’s start with a bit of a bang. If you’ve not heard a Novation Circuit before, let’s take a quick listen:

Sounds pretty sweet, yes?

When I first got my hands on a Novation Circuit, I was impressed with how easy it was to start making some simple sounds and loops with it, but there is a lot more to it than that.

Novation Circuit Tutorial

Obviously, a huge screen with lots of easy-to-read menus would be nice, but the addition of something like that would no doubt have made it considerably more expensive than the £249.99 price Novation have been able to bring the Circuit in for.

Also, there’s something quite nice about not having a screen, it perhaps inspires a bit more on-the-fly creativity; it’s just about hitting pads and tweaking knobs all in real-time, and sometimes there’s not enough of that in modern music-making…

Novation Circuit Tutorial Videos!

While I lament the continued demise of the hefty, printed, paper manual, I am a huge fan of the well-produced and informative video tutorial.

If you want to get up to speed quickly and easily with the Novation Circuit, this set of tutorial videos from XpressPads is definitely worth watching. So thanks for those guys!

If you’re thinking about adding a Circuit to your studio, but haven’t picked one up yet, take a watch, get acquainted, then call in to Red Dog Music to get your hands on the real thing and get some patterns made yourself. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed…

I think you’ll agree, that series of videos is a pretty special way to get started with the Circuit, so huge thanks to Xpress Pads for that! Of course, there will no doubt be more Novation Circuit Tutorial videos and articles appearing over the coming months to plug any gaps, but, in the meantime, you can always get stuck into the Circuit manual.
