Music to put a smile on your face and brighten your day!

Music to put a smile on your face and brighten your day!

The great thing about music – and perhaps simultaneously the worst – is its ability to completely change your mood. I’m sure we’ve all been there at one point or another: all is maudlin, you feel like Artax in the Swamp of Sadness, but then the Nolans pop up on the radio and you can’t help but crack a smile.

Music to cheer you up

Isn’t music great?

Let’s not forget music’s power though; it’s only fair to reference the flip-side of the emotional coin; what about cheery Father Kevin on the bus in Father Ted? It’s all smiles until Radiohead…

Enough preamble. It’s the start of the week, I woke up at 3am – as I did the day before – for seemingly no reason. I need some tunes to make me smile, and maybe you do too… so let’s do that.

No. Introduction. Necessary.

Get yer boots on and get ’em tappin’.

Yes, it’s that tune from Blade, but if this doesn’t make you want to draw the curtains, and dance around your living while the cat creates some authentic lighting effects by opening and closing the fridge door, then I really don’t know what to say.

If it’s all getting a bit too materialistic, then just remember the joy of a simple sunrise…

Even if it’s Saturday, Friday night will come around again soon. Grab a night out, catch a band or get your rave on, and tune out for a night.

Take the fine keys of Ramsey Lewis and funk it up with a dash of Mr. Scruff. Nice.

Been walking on the shady side of the street? Cross the road (look both ways and listen though, remember the Green Cross Code!).

Someone else got a brand new bag? Hey, haven’t you got a bag of your own?

Yes, many have commented on similarities between this and the theme from The Really Wild Show, but it’s still a cracking tune.

Feeling like a melancholic singer/songwriter? Why? Tonight, be a rock n’ roll star.

It might not make you levitate in front of Geena Davis, but come on, what a tune!

The best protest song ever! Who can’t get behind saving strawberry jam and draught beer?!

Well, I’m still shattered, but just catching a few snippets of these as I put this together has taken the edge of the start of the week. Here’s to us all!

Have a good one, folks.
